Milestone 4 Pumas
Design Axes for 3 Themes
Our team had several brainstorm sessions where we discussed the similarities and differences across the ideas proposed for each theme.
Part of our brainstorming was captured in:
With the examples provided for empathy we created the notion that empathy can help to create high quality work. Empathy helps to build a community which can result in better responses from workers. We also considered that through empathy the requestor could better understand workers' motivators. This could help them to better direct workers for producing quality work.
From the examples provided we considered that to produce high quality results workers and requesters must have a shared mental model of the task. The requestor must know how to ask for the ask to workers; and workers must know how to return the results from the task to requestors. From the examples we also inferred that quality was related to worker motivation. By understanding what motivates workers we can get a better performance from them.
From the examples provided we considered that to have clarity in how tasks are presented to workers, workers and requesters must have a shared mental model of the task. The requestor must know how to ask for the ask to workers; and workers must know how to return the results from the task to requestors. Many of the examples discuss how we can leverage the crowd to help requesters better present their ideas; or data visualizations to facilitate exploring the tasks and making sense out of them.
List of Ideas and the Theme they belong to
We believe that through good direction requesters will be able to obtain high quality results from workers. The Crowd Director is a "smart advisor" formed of experienced workers who collectively help requesters to direct workers, while also looking out for the workers' needs. The Crowd Director aids requesters to:
(a) Present their tasks to workers.
(b) Motivate workers to produce quality work.
TurkerSociety is a platform that helps to build a community between workers and requesters. We believe that to create quality work there needs to be a community between the workers and requesters. We propose TurkerSociety, a platform designed to facilitate the formation of community. Following sociological theory, we consider that a community can be built by:
(a) having everyone know each other.
(b) following certain values.
TurkerSociety has data visualizations to ease knowing about each other, and built in mechanisms to promote specific values.
We consider that through adequate motivation workers can excel in their performance. We propose a smart platform that triggers different mechanisms to motivate workers. The mechanisms go from suggestions to requesters, to breaking up workers' tasks in ways that will help them to improve their career or lifestyle.
