Practical Guild Organization Proposition

Historical Context

Besides a lot of additional functions, the basic features of historical guilds seem to

  • have been a system for financing the formation of new members to an agreed set of skills
  • have helped in the diffusion of market information

Both subjects appear essential for a well-functioning crowdsourcing market. As a requester, how can I make sure that people pretending to execute my task batch have the necessary dedication or qualification and will produce relevant output As a worker, how can I build a reputation to have access at best remunerated jobs, how can I learn the best practices for operating and where can I find information on “current” pricing estimates for type of jobs

Guild Member: A Gradual Evolution

As a new platform worker, I have access to : a general chat, discussion between platform users a market chat, basically a channel where guilds are promoting themselves and requesters can also promote and annonce future job offers.

I could select opened jobs/tasks and declare my job interests I could also apply to an existing guilds.

The guild can have set standards for applying. Basically, my application means that I declare to meet these standards. In a guild, three ranks organize relationships between members: Apprentice : new member Journeyman : confirmed member, contribute by mentoring apprentices, can monitor batch results Master : senior member, takes part to decision, have admin access to guild tools, monitor journeymen activities, can contract for the guild. (we could change that to a more fancy context if necessary)

A journeyman delegates some task to its apprentice and is in charge to control the produced results. Journeyman management of apprentices is reviewed by a master.

Journeyman supervision is paid by a fee over the amount due for task completion. Supervision is a mandatory step for achieving mastership.

Skills are managed by tree-like structures from general to more specific (cf yoni description). Regarding skills, attribution for apprentice results from proposition issued by the journeyman mentor. A Journeyman can present his own case to Masters for acquiring new level of skills while masters manage their own skill acquisition on a peer to peer basis.

Guild Creation

Objectives : bootstrapping and limitation of natural fragmentations

An aging mechanism : only individuals, then groups of individuals with an existing history in the platform can create guilds

“Facebook” pages : guilds are entitled to publish on a dedicated page entitled to them by the system Chat channels : the chat allocates two channels per guild : guild-open shared by all, guild-restricted
