Submission for WinterMilestone 1

Experience the life of a Worker on Mechanical Turk

Things I liked:

  • Most of the jobs made sure that the qualifications were met before letting people accept HITs for the job.

Things I hated:

  • It was hard to search for jobs as the jobs didnt have any tags on them that could actually help in filtering out tasks.
  • Some of the tasks didn't really have a decent description of the tasks and didnt particularly clarify some of the edge cases.

Experience the life of a Requester on Mechanical Turk

MobileWorks

  • What do you like about the system / what are its strengths?

The system is targeting an unexplored market to do the job so it is a very ood business decision. It is a system that is beneficial to all parties involved.

  • What do you think can be improved about the system?

The current system only supports OCR related tasks. A future improvement would be to add support for other types of tasks.

Daemo

  • What do you like about the system / what are its strengths?

I think that Daemo has 2 major strengths.

1. Boomerang Rating System : I feel it makes sense to continuously keep pairing requesters and workers or atleast give them the opportunity to pair up as they both are used to the quality of each other's work and are happy with each other's work. This makes crowdsourcing a much more fruitful process for both the requester and the worker.

2. Prototype Tasks : The concept is analogous to keep getting your writing assignment by different people to improve its quality. This iterative approach removes the ambiguities and structures the task better for the worker and also improves the quality of the worker.

  • What do you think can be improved about the system?

I think the way the requesters and users rate each other can be improved. I feel instead of asking the worker to directly rate the requester, they could be asked to rate some key features about the requester and then the rating could be inferred from that. This could probably any kind of money-related bias in terms of ratings.

Flash Teams

  • What do you like about the system / what are its strengths?

The thing that I like the most about this system is that the kind of tasks they are crowdsourcing are complicated tasks. This seems like a very novel way of utilising people's creativity.

  • What do you think can be improved about the system?

I think this system is very specialised to crowdsource complicated tasks. Creation of flash teams just feels like overkill for simple tasks. In a nutshell, I feel this isn't a general enough crowdsourcing platform.
