Experience the life of a Worker on Mechanical Turk

What did you like?

- A high number of hits were available for workers without qualifications

- Most tasks seemed quite simple and easy to do, the amount to be earned was also quite evident

- Approval rate was quicker than others

What did you dislike?

- I was able to work for a few hits on mturk however, later I recieved an email stating my worker status was not approved and I wouldn't be receiving anything!

- Usability wise, I found it tough to use

- The website itself looks very dated and unappealing. It could be visually designed much better

- Hits can be accepted if you click on hits in this group and that is not evident. It is frustrating without accept button upfront in the listing

- Search options are too small

- Too much time taken to find and finish appropriate hits

What do you think can be improved about the system?

- The layout should be more user friendly and visually appealing.

- The layout should follow design guidelines that ensure better usability and readability

- Repeated posts should be avoided.

Experience the life of a Requester on Mechanical Turk

What did you like?

- Nothing as Mturk sandbox closed my account and did not allow me to post

What did you dislike?

- Unable to post a request even to sandbox because mturk did not approve my account after I had already worked on hits

Explore alternative crowd-labor markets

What did you like?

- Creating my profile was very simple and easy. I could add qualifications and choose the kind of area I wanted to work in

- Availability of Tests in order to help workers prove their qualifications and requesters to find genuine workers

- Worker can indicate availability and rate

- Features like time tracker to help resolve issues between requesters and workers

What did you dislike?

- Newbies are inherently stuck. Without certain qualifications , it is very tough to find a job

- Task effort is not taken into consideration when setting an amount

- Too much wait time for an account to be approved

What did you like?

- Interface post login was simple

What did you dislike?

- It is a catch 22 situation for newcomers who need to have worked on projects before taking on new projects!

- Sign up screen is badly designed, no hierarchy, information is scattered all over

What do you like about the system / what are its strengths?

- Unlike Mturk, mobileworks is aimed at people whose literacy levels are lower. From a social pov, these people are more in need of the money and hence this is a very good platform for low level workers to earn money - Designed for low resolution cell phones and to work on slow data which enables users from various economic backgrounds to use the platform to earn money - Due to the ability to finish higher number of tasks, users could earn more money - High penetration in countries like India and in rural areas too

What do you think can be improved about the system?

- Quality rating system may discourage users who are not necessarily native english speakers, a low score can also decrease their reputation. This system must be looked into and consider various aspects before grading a worker

What do you like about the system / what are its strengths?

- Tries to have more transparency between workers and requesters - Regular feedback loops ensure that workers and requesters' time is not wasted - Boomerang reputation system that uses requesters’ ratings to influence which workers get early access to their tasks, and uses workers’ ratings to influence the ordering of their task feed

What do you think can be improved about the system?

- Currently, the platform needs a lot of improvement in terms of design, I tried it out and was unable to submit my answers properly and got a random error message.

Flash Teams

What do you like about the system / what are its strengths?

- Large group of workers can be organised to complete a mammothian task at any given point of time - Structured handoffs and DRI based assignment ensures that tasks are modularised and assigned which helps organise them much easier - Recruiting experts to handle a task

What do you think can be improved about the system?

- Larger teams means larger geographical dispersion and this needs to be managed better - DRIs can be loaded if work assigned is not completed in a timely manner. This needs to be re looked at
