Agile Project Management: Transparency & Productivity
Work which is more complex like designing and coding has in the real world more than one person involved (team). The team works on the basis of a project management method. Agile project management methods like SCRUM or KANBAN can help the team during the development process but also the requester to have an overview and direct impact on the project. So my proposal is:
Kanban or SCRUM tool to create sprints, user stories etc. for more complex tasks It will replace a simple “private messaging” tool because all participants will communicate through a systematic process (nature of agile project management) to reach the project goals. The possibility for misunderstandings shrinks and the requester has the possibility to intervene with specific instructions/user stories. He has also insights of the latest process.
Ensuring Transparency and Clarity: The White Guild
The White Guild is made of expert workers and requesters that work together. They are responsible of:
Making the sign-up clearer: For example, when I click the "sign in" button nothing pops up. Only when I scroll down can I see the login box.
Clearly label what the boomerang circles mean: For example, after completing at task, the name of the requester appears with 3 blank round circles. There is no explanation of what they are for but when I click them they turn to dark blue. Am I to presume they are for rating the requester?
Clarify items that are unclear: Ensure that the item is retrievable once the "save" button is clicked. For example, I clicked on but didn't completed a task "What is this sound?" because there was no blank in which to type the answer nor options to select. I clicked "save" to save the item for later, but it's now disappeared altogether. Is there some way to retrieve this?
Give clear pathways for appropriate learning and skills needed to complete relevant work effectively.
Give clear pathways for appropriate learning for newcomers.
The Blue Guild: The Research Guild
The Daemo Advisory Committee or Blue Guild or Research Guild could be comprised of representatives who would identify all the related factors per important issues or investigation topics, including any relevant research or evidence supporting both the relative pros and the cons. After a "Blue Review", all platform participants would be responsible for voting on the issue after having been presented with all the facts and theories. The representatives of the Advisory Committee could be workers, requesters, business (such as big business, small business, Angel Investors, VCs), people with interests/expertise in Learning and Development, researchers and Daemo developers.
A dark-horse idea: a "rescue-me" service on the platform where workers (and requesters for that matter, can ask for a team of friends to work on their projects/tasks if they find they have family/personal/commitment matters of emergency that they have to attend to. For the emergency rescue idea, perhaps for each task type people could form into small self-formed collectives that they regularly want to work with for each type of skill areas, for one person, for example, they may want work in the following areas: 1) translation written to spoken formal Japanese to English, 2)business card design 3) web development project 4) transcribing. You can see that the groups you'd work with would be very different for each skill/topic/type.
Agreements could convey fines to the whole groups, not to the individuals, small fines but perceivable like 3% earning less to all the workers if freeriders rise to 30% or if poor quality reaches 15%. If requesters do something too bad price of workers is added by the system as +5%. This way requesters do not judge workers, but workers control workers and viceversa. Both sides decide on some agreements and percentages of fines, and daemo does nothing more let them talk, then designs and code the software and finally shows everyone the agreements everyone agreed on.
Think and design some special, out-of-the-scheme features that could improve the way workers get jobs according to their personal identity, even with heart-rate emotional tracking ( https://www.researchgate.net/publication/43049670_Autonomic_Nervous_System_Activity_in_Emotion_A_Review )
Self-rating system that aims to encourage workers to admit to their lower-than-expected work and based on which it offers $ compensation (either in the form of a drag slider or fixed price <send 10% back to requester>). This can be further reinforced by allowing requesters to “visibly applaud” (which could just be clicking an ok button before submitting feedback) and give an honesty rating. My idea is based on the whole fat that if this platform was to develop into a (more or less) self-sufficient platform, honesty is key and through this you could measure and enforce it.
When you get to daemo, it asks "why do you want money?" The question will drive you to companies who might actually give you what you want (you want money to buy a book => amazon does not pay you but gives you the book) In fact, is money a real need? Or it is a vehicle of something else? Would any worker accept concerts/game tickets or medical facilities/treatments/vouchers? People who just want to have fun may ask for books or movie or spotify vouchers. Moreover, some goods are better than money for the requesters, like ebooks, online services like games or learning facilities, etc.
The Insurance System and the Guilds (Trade Unions of the "game")
For open governance - there’s an insurance system (you accept it on your own will). If the worker isnt paid or there’s any issue - he’s getting the reimbursement. Same for requester - if requester doesn't get job done (but for real reasons), he gets the reimbursement too. If the worker doesnt get a payement, the platform gives him money from already frozen deposit given by requester while posting task. If the requester doesn’t get the job done, he could receive the reimbursement from the relative Guild or from the whole workers side.
The Guilds, or trade union, through its leadership, bargains with the employer on behalf of union members (rank and file members) and negotiates labour contracts (collective bargaining) with employers. The most common purpose of these associations or unions is maintaining or improving the conditions of their employment. This may include the negotiation of wages, work rules, complaint procedures, rules governing hiring, firing and promotion of workers, benefits, workplace safety and policies.
Every Guild works as a set into the big set of the workers and the requesters. Workers are free to join the guilds/trade unions that wil represent their rights/concerns. Experts will be present there too. While having a dispute, expert’s group is called to solve a problem, trade union is called out.
Variation: An integrated discussion board per Guild and side with addtional functions e.g. polls could help requesters and workers to discuss issues and also to help each other.
The Dark Drone
A punishing/reward system for which only the reward system will be explained for security reasons . Once trust has been established between a requester and a worker, either one can opt to make a act of good will and hire a drone to send a box of doughnuts, wherever in the world they may be. This of course has plenty of safety, privacy and of course aviation laws to bend, but everyone likes doughnuts.
Stanford is Daemo, Daemo is Stanford
We should use daemo as our internal platform to test all reputation, representation and other systems. Imagine if Bernstein and Rajan and DRI were the requesters. The others the workers. Imagine if we make agencies like in upwork in daemo instead of groups in slack. so that groups and workers are there. Rajan could use daemo for the milestones and we would rate our same contributions and activities as jobs. No meteor, no slack, no bonusly, just the wiki and daemo. Now we can rate through badges and comments but we’re not testing daemo for that! We will feel the same social issues and maybe get some tension but we can test MANY solutions and see how it is like. And newcomers from the next batch will be handled better and we could test newcomers in daemo and they’ll learn daemo being newbies!
The Supper Hits System
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1kkk1DdIfdXaerXT2-CwbICyMaP1VOBbx-7oBq3Z6xmc The Supper Hit System is a system able to make average wages over the system in a way to avoid unfair wages. Please follow the link.
